“The only reason white people think being called a ‘white person’ is racist, or harmful or wrong is because they are used to the privilege of just being seen as a ‘person’ without their race or color being an issue for them. You see, when you call them ‘white,’ suddenly, they are not just a person, but now they have a color. Suddenly, they are no better than a PoC. And that scares the shit out of them.”—
Many years ago, one of my female friends bravely confronted a man who had raped her. Later, she, a bunch of our other friends, and I all went out to a bar, and he happened to be there. He did everything he could in his power to make her feel disempowered and uncomfortable. He verbally accosted her, then he started trying to pick each of us off. He passed me a written note that said “I’m sorry it’s not politically correct for you to associate with me, brother.” He called me brother. I barely knew the guy and he called me brother. The implication there was that I as a male should be allied with him against this stupid lying woman.
That, my friends, is misogynist culture at its barest. No need to even deny the claim, just call me brother, and it’s assumed that we will be united against the claim of rape against you.
does it ever really hit you how much of your time you waste here like we put so much effort and thought and energy into posting things we like just so they can be pushed down a website as we post more and everything slowly sinks and disappears into an extensive archive that nobody will ever look at all our hard work floating into the distance of the internet along with our souls
…Either Google brought down the content policy hammer or the admins simply decided it wasn’t a battle worth fighting. When Fast Eddie noted the deletion of the trope page, he added, “There is no explanation needed beyond the fact that the topic is a pain in the ass to keep clean and it endangers the wiki’s revenues. We just won’t have articles about rape. Super easy. No big loss.”
If you're a feminist who understands the (apparently not) radical concept that women can have penises and men can have vaginas (and that there are people with either or both of those who may very well identify as neither a man nor a woman), would you mind reblogging this? I could really use a little faith in humanity being restored right about now.
